Glass Plates and Cake Stands

Before film was developed, photographers captured photographs on glass plates with a chemical solution spread over them. These plates, called glass plate negatives, were a valuable part of the early history of photography.

Photographers used a variety of techniques to capture images on these plates. One such technique was the collodion wet plate invented by Frederick Scoff Archer in the 1850s.

If you do find that your desserts are over-browning in a glass pan, drop the oven temperature by about 25 degrees and bake ten minutes longer. This will minimize the problem. But if you're using a glass dish for cakes and similar sugary treats, you'll need to watch closely because the sides and bottom can brown faster than the center.
